About us

The XVI Annual Conference of the International Society for Clinical Bioethics (ISCB) is organized in conjunction with the Pontifical University of John Paul II (UPJPII) and the Polish Institute for Evidence Based Medicine (PIEBM) in Kraków, and supported by the Kazan State Agrarian University and the University of RijekaDepartment of Social Sciences and Medical Humanities 

The International Society for Clinical Bioethics aims to be truly international, linking all those working in clinical bioethics and related fields, facilitating mutual contact, and encouraging the discussion of clinical aspects in bioethics. The Society exists for educational and scientific purposes, and not for the purpose of making profits for its members or for any other person or organisation, with the following educational and scientific objectives: 

  • To facilitate contacts and the exchange of information between those working in clinical bioethics and related fields in different parts of the world; 
  • To organise and promote international workshops, seminars and conferences in clinical bioethics and related fields;
  • To publish bioethical newsletters, volumes and other types of publications;
  • To encourage the development of research and teaching in clinical bioethics and related fields;
  • To uphold the value of free, open and reasoned discussion on issues in clinical bioethics and related fields.
The Pontifical University of John Paul I is one of few pontifical universities worldwide and the first one in Central and Eastern Europe, a dynamically developing higher education institution with six faculties open to new fields of study and specialisations adapted to the current needs.

The Polish Institute for Evidence Based Medicine (PIEBM) is a foundation established in 2003. Its goal is to promote the concept and methods of evidence-based medicine among medical professionals in order to rationalize and enhance the quality of healthcare in Poland.

This goal is being fulfilled by:

  • Producing and distributing up-to-date and reliable information useful in everyday medical practice
  • Teaching the skills necessary for efficient use of medical information
  • Initiating and providing methodological support for creation of clinical practice guidelines and disseminating them within the medical community
  • Conducting research activity in the field of systematic reviews and meta-analyses
  • Facilitating cooperation between Polish medical professionals and foreign experts in the field of evidence-based medicine
